Creative Child Therapy Workshops provides practical training and resources for therapists working with children and families. Their workshops are hands-on and fun, providing therapists with lots of creative and engaging ideas for children aged four to twelve years, and are offered in several Australian cities each year. They have recently launched their online program, a self-paced, online version of their popular ‘Creative Ways to Help Children Manage Emotions’ workshop. New and experienced therapists from a broad range of backgrounds have enjoyed the playful and purposeful approach of their workshops, online course and free online resources.
Creative Child Therapy Workshops also develop and share free online resources for therapists working with children and families. The free resources on their webpage are regularly updated with new creative therapy activities (eg., “Playful child assessment and making your own therapeutic Jenga”), printable templates (eg., “Printable child and family assessment template”) and articles with practical and fun ideas for therapy with children (eg., “Creative ways to use a ball in therapy”).
Creative Child Therapy Workshops founders, Dr Fiona Zandt and Dr Suzanne Barrett, are authors of the book ‘Creative Ways to Help Children Manage Big Feelings: A Therapist’s Guide to Working with Preschool and Primary Children’ (2017, Jessica Kingsley Publishers). Fiona and Suzanne are both experienced Clinical Psychologists who work exclusively with children, adolescents, and families. Like most experienced therapists, Fiona and Suzanne’s style is eclectic, drawing on a number of theoretical approaches including CBT, ACT, systemic family therapy and narrative therapy. Their emphasis is on using play to engage children and to introduce and allow children to explore therapeutic concepts.
