Mornings of a school day can be a very stressful time in the house. Although there are many things to think about: getting your child dress and fed, making their lunches, and getting out of the house in time so your child is not late for school, it is also important to make sure your child arrives at school happy and ready to learn. Below are tips to ensure your child is happy and ready for school in the morning.
1. Sleep Routine
It is necessary for parents to set the sleep routine of their children to ensure the child is receiving the right amount of sleep throughout the night. Lack of sleep can reduce daytime alertness and your child may wake up frustrated. Having sufficient amount of sleep can allow your child to wake up in a happy mood in the morning and they may be more willing to go to school.
2. Morning Talk
Waking up in the morning can be very difficult for children (and even adults). Parents can make mornings more exciting for their children with the involvement of morning talk. Morning talk may include the exciting routine of a day for your child. Parents can also talk about the weekend plan so your child can look forward to the weekend.
Along with this, it is also necessary for parents to create a positive light for school. Parents can tell their child how education will help them in future for chasing their small dreams. Or how they will be able to see their friends at school and play with them at lunchtime.
3. Monitor Your Child’s Response
Monitor your child’s response during the morning talk. If your child is in the happy state, then they will be ready for school. But if your child appears down during the morning talk, then ask them how they are feeling and why they might be feeling this way. Parents can talk through the problems and help the child find solutions. Parents can also talk about the positive aspects of school that the child normally enjoys.
4. Provide Them with a Good Lunch
You know what, children always love good food, and they always get excited when they find that they are going to eat their favourite food. Parents can put the child’s favourite food in their lunchbox so when it is lunchtime, the child is excited.
It is also important to provide healthy snacks in the lunchbox to ensure your child is getting healthy energy for the rest of the day. Snack size fruit and vegetables are great additions to a child’s lunchbox.
You can also write a small note and slip this into the lunchbox. Notes which say: “Have a great day!”, “Can’t wait to see you this afternoon”, or “I love you” can give your child happiness and motivation for the rest of the day.
5. Create a Special Goodbye Routine
Whether you drop your child at school or they use alternative methods to get to school, consider creating a special goodbye routine with your child. Whether it is a hug and kiss goodbye, or a secret handshake, you can use this special goodbye routine when you say goodbye to your child in the morning.
You can also remind them who is going to pick them up in the afternoon or let them know what the plans are in the afternoon. This can give them a positive thing to look forward to.
